My name is Dr Govind Satheesh, i am currently GP ST1.
. i am a passionate Doctor with extensive experience in Medicine and hospital settings. I did my medical schooling in SUT academy of medical science, trivandrum, kerala, india. After graduating in2015 i opted to do my internship in Government general hospital , ernakulam, which is an NABH( National accreditation board for hospitals, india) accredited government hospital ,one of the best renowned government hospitals in india for its delivery of excellent health care. I choose to do internship here as i would be able to work and learn under well experienced consultants from the government sector and at the same time get exposed by coming across a wide variety of medical cases. During my internship i was fortunate enough to learn and do many medical procedures which i have mentioned in the procedures above under supervision of my consultants and individually on my own as well. i have gained confidence in history taking and i was able to fully grasp different procedures like cannulation, ABG sampling , urethral catheterisation, NG tube insertion, pleural tapping, suturing, dressing wounds, draining infected wounds etc. My consultants taught me how a junior doctor should approach a case and how escalating to seniors is important in emergencies. My A&E experience helped me to increase my confidence in dealing with acutely ill patients, it also provided me with excellent training in how to remain calm and organised under pressure which has proved extremely useful during my on call work. as well as developing clinical skills. I have sought my teaching skills. i have been involved in teaching under graduates in basic clinical matters and procedures with both bed side or ward teaching and formal lectures.
After internship i worked for 3 years in hospital setting, clinics and online doctor consultations in India.
i have now successfully completed my PLAB exams and fully registered with GMC with licence to practice and have been working with NHS in Sandwell and west Birmingham NHS trust since December 2021 under medical specialities - Care of elderly, Respiratory medicine and Acute medicine since December 2021 to present. Having studied abroad i have sought out to gain more exposure with NHS system, Currently i am in Respiratory medicine. Here, i learned to operate the electronic health record software to observe and document all patient specific clinical management and care activities such as discharge paperwork. attended different teaching sessions by the junior doctors and Consultants on topics like how to read CT scans, Osteoporosis, Dementia, Atrial fibrillation. I got confidant in seeing patients on ward rounds, ward cover shifts and clerking shifts. got skilled in procedures like iv cannula, venipuncture, Lumbar puncture, pleural tap etc.
After my experience of working in the NHS i gained confidence to work as an independent doctor under senior cover developing confidence in my clinical skills and management. this allowed me to master the technique of knowing when to take control of situations and when to recognise my own limitations and contact my seniors appropriately. Not only did this mould me into a calm , confident and safe doctor it also showed my ability to work in a high pressured environment and adapt appropriately.
Through being observed by seniors and continuously wanting to improve, i was able to develop essential skills such as effective communication, empathy and ability to work effectively with my colleagues in order to provide excellent and safe patient care. i have always been inspired by NHS as it works for welfare of the patient irrespective of social class.Adept in properly diagnosing and strategising for the best treatment plans for patients. Bringing forth an empathetic and professional attitude, committed to providing patients with the best care possible. Experienced in counselling patients on preventative care and positive lifestylechanges. A strong leader who works well under pressure and with other medical professionals.
Out of all these , i have particularly enjoyed medical specialities because of the analytical and communication challenges they offer. i am highly interested to work in Sheffield teaching hospital NHS trust which is known for its learning and teaching for young doctors. i see this post as one of the best opportunities where i would learn and work in a state of the art hospital and improve my clinical awareness and skills. this job would help me further enhance my clinical work. along side this it would further help me to conduct research. perform clinical audits and perform teaching session under senior supervision. in the future, i plan on taking MRCP exams with an aim to apply for internal medicine training.
From a personal perspective my colleagues see me as someone who is reliable , supportive and focused at my work, giving top priority to teamwork in handling and counselling patients and addressing their concerns.
I take an effort in making sure i follow my work with great care and focus, some of my skills include :
-maintain accurate patient records, develop trusting relationship with patient families.
-being up to date with latest updates on medicines and treatment methods.
-taking effort in learning new procedures and making sure i teach my juniors.
I am passionate about extending my abilities to Improve patient access, safety and experience.
Professionally i like to extend my ability to reflect on what i am doing and plan purposefully to meet my learning needs, problem-solving by observing, listening and asking questions, reading, enquiring and researching to find solutions to difficult issues, eg challenges in diagnosis . As such i have always been fascinated by this filed , management of patients with can be so fascinating , challenging but very motivating at the same time. Learning about it and how to manage the condition in early stage before there is a full blown system illness is a rush to me. But most of all the satisfaction i get from talking to patients and their relatives, explaining to them about what treatment is being given and how we plan on getting them better, giving a ray of hope when they need it the most, holding their hands when they need us the most, seeing them from their own shoes and talking to them in a way where they feel as close to home as possible, is the best feeling for me. I hope i have the honour to be selected and it will be a start of a long fulfilling career in Medicine.
With My experience in medicine with NHS i have currently worked in Geriatric medicine, Acute medicine, Respiratory medicine, Cardiology and haematology. I have gained confidence in managing any situations and i have learned to stay calm in most pressurised situations this way i am able to extend a good working environment to my colleagues as well to ensure patient care is delivered in perfect way possible.
